Yes, you read that correctly. Sourdough pizza dough, oh my! It is as good as it sounds and one of the easiest sourdough recipes you will find.
We adore making pizza on a Friday, me with a glass of wine and the kids with a movie. This recipe is near bullet proof and even if you dough doesn’t increase in size much, say during Winter, it is still seriously delicious.
Sourdough Pizza Dough
What you need is:
- 1/2 cup of warm water
- fill remainder of cup with sourdough starter
- 2 cups of plain flour
- 1 tbs of olive oil
- a pinch of salt
What you do is:
Mix all the ingredients together and bring the dough into a ball. Knead it on a floured bench for a few minutes until it starts to become a little shiny and smoother in texture. Pop the ball in a bowl with a little olive oil and cover with a tea towel. Let it rise for a good 2 hours in a warm spot if possible.
When you are ready, divide the main ball into 2 separate dough balls and roll and top with your favourite toppings.
Cook in a super hot oven for around 10-15 minutes, depends on your oven and the toppings you have used.
And enjoy!
Below are some photos of the steps.
PS the cup is any cup, as long as the ratio is followed as above.
PPS you can use plain flour, it doesn’t have to be bread flour.
PPPS If you only need 1 base, then prep the second and freeze it off. Or you could par bake it in the oven and then freeze it off. I know, I know, freezers and leftovers are the best. I swear by them.
