Rainbow playdough.
.
.
When the children are frazzled, getting their hands working and moving their thoughts out of their mind and into their bodies, is the best medicine.
Playdough is always a good idea. Even for older kids. They love it. And using a natural, food based colours and even essential oils, makes the sensory experience even more peaceful and invigorating.
.
Rainbow Playdough
What you need is:
- 2 cups of plain flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 2 tbsp of oil
- 2 tbs of lemon juice (or cream of tartar)
- 1 – 1 1/4 cups of boiling water.
What you do is:
Mix all the ingredients together until a well mixed dough and knead until smooth. Then if would like to colour them you can divide the balls into 4 and then add in:
- 1 tbsp of cocoa to make chocolate
- 1 tbsp of turmeric to make a bright yellow colour
- 2 tbsp of acai powder (from Aldi) to make a light pink colour.
- 1 tbsp of spirulina (from Aldi) to make a dark green colour.
Such beautiful natural hues of colour. Which also create a pathway for a conversation about colour and how we colour foods. You could also paint with these powders as well.
