In this month’s Foodie Chat, I had the pleasure of talking with Erin Bear of Curious Cubs, in Newcastle.
Curious Cubs, is an interactive STEM program for children. They run incursions and workshops, afterschool activities and weekly programs for preschool and primary aged children.
Erin’s background is in Science and Education and she developed this idea over her years of working with children and in a science capacity. How can we engage and develop a relationship with children and STEM based learning that is engaging, ongoing, inspiring and fun!
Well I thrilled to say, Erin has been successful. And in this chat we delve into this further.
We talked about:
- Erin’s background and how she developed a passion for science and pursued that BC (before children!)
- How she discovered the need for an interactive program that developed and deepened children’s understanding of STEM.
- How she started and where she is going with Curious Cubs.
- How she gets inspiration to create the multitude of activities she has created over the last 3 years!
- The importance of play based education.
- The importance of not ‘dumbing’ down the concepts of science.
- How everyone can creative spaces for learning about science, in formal ELC and at home.
- Her tips for incorporating more STEM in your kids lives.
- We also have an opportunity for a walk around her classroom and a wee look at some of the activities.
I hope you enjoy this chat as much as I had having it with Erin.
